In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to quickly make this maintenance page for when your site is under construction, or if you make any changes that you don’t want people see before you’re finished. You’ve got the option to enter title, a bit of text, and optional elements such as a countdown timer, a subscription section, social links, and a Contact Us form that people can fill in, and it will go straight to your e-mail inbox.
Not all of these elements are essential, but all of this took me at most about five minutes to make. So I’ll show you how to do that now. By the way, if you’re logged into WordPress, you will actually be able to see your website. If you want to know how to make this awesome looking website you see right here for a few dollars in the space for about one hour all by yourself, please see our How to Make a Website tutorial, and we’ll show you step-by-step how you can set this up yourself.
Once you’ve logged into your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins. Add New. Search for a plugin called WP Maintenance Mode. That’s the one there. Install, and Activate. Now, if you look at the list of plugins and find WP Maintenance Mode, you’ll see the Settings link. Select Activated. Now, most of this you can leave as default. Depends if you want to bypass search engine bots or not. You can select Yes or No. Leave that as default No. Leave everything else as default. You’ll have to Save Settings. In this plugin, whenever you make a change to one of these tabs, you’ll have to go down and Save Settings before you move to the next tab. Otherwise, it will remove any changes you made. Design. Title – Coming Soon! And, you can enter your text here. As you can see, you can select a different color if you need to. You can select a predefined background, or an upload your own background. I’m going to choose a pretty fine background.
Let’s try that one there. Save Settings. You’ll have to log out to be able see what your site looks like in maintenance mode. There it is. There’s our simple maintenance message. Now, if we want to add a couple of other cool things, I’ll show you how to add a little countdown timer, and a contact area. So back to Plugins. Settings. Go into the Modules tab. You can show a Countdown Timer. You can start that now, and let’s say countdown three days, 12 hours, and 55 minutes.
You can show a Subscribe button as well. And, you can also add some social icons. Now, what you’ll need to here is put in your social … social links. For any you leave empty, they will not appear. And, you can also put a button for people to be able to contact you. That’s optional. If you choose to use that, enter your e-mail address. Log out, and refresh. And, that’s how your maintenance page looks currently. The background is sort making the text illegible.
So what I’ll do, I’ll actually log back in, and change that. Let’s try that one there. There we are. That’s much better. As you can see, it looks nice and professional. People can enter their e-mail addresses and subscribe. People can visit your social pages, and people can hit the Contact Us button. Put in a message. Hit send, and it will be delivered straight to your inbox. So I hope that’s been helpful. Thanks for watching. Please thumbs up this video if you found it useful.
